Peggy Ann Rieves, Thomas Rieves infant heirs of Ephraim Rieves decd and Jonathan Shields, & Mary Ann his wife, the said Mary Ann being the other heir of said decd Ephraim Rieves of the County of Harrison and State of Indiana, of the first part, and Benjamin Ramey of the County of Shenandoah and State of Virginia of the second part Witnesseth, that the said parties of the first part for and in consideration of the sum of Four hundred an fifty dollars current money of the Unnited States to the parties of the first part in hand paid by the said party of the second part (the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged) have granted bargained and sold, alienated, released, conveyed and confirmed, and by these presents do grant, bargain & sell alien, release, convey and confirm unto the said Party of the second part, his heirs and assigns, a certain tract or parcel of land with all its appertenances, lying and being in the said County of Shenandoah on the waters of the north river of Shenandoah and near the little Northmountain, it being the same tract of land formerly conveyed to the said Ephraim Rieves decd by James Copelen & Sarah Copelen his wife by their deed of Bargain & Sale bearing date the 12 day of March 1810 which deed is of record in the County Court of Shenandoah and Bounded as followeth to wit: Beginning at a white oak by a large rock stone corner to the land Philip Snapp sold to Jacob Tressler in the old line adjoining Funkhousers land, thence with Funkhousers line N 39 E 94 poles to two white oaks corner to the land sold by Snapp to Abraham Funkhouser thence with his line N 47 W 54 poles to a locist stake by a white oak corner to said Funk houser; then leaving his line and the same course continues 86 poles further to a heap of stones put together in the backline, thence with the same S 48 W 50 poles to a heap o stones where the said Jacob Tressler's Corner, a white oak & Spanish oak formerly stood and then with the said tressler's line So 31 Et 157 poles to the Beginning, also a certain other tract adjoining the said tract above mentioned & described & Philip Broobeck & others, and heretofore conveyed by Philip Snapp to the said Ephraim Rieves by deed of Bargain & Sale, which is of record in the said County Court of Shenandoah and which said Deed more fully describes the Boundaries of said land, which said several tracts contain one hundred & thirty acres and one half acre more or less, being the same land whereof the said Ephraim Rieves decd died seized and which hath descended to the above mentioned heirs parties of the first part. To have and to hold the said tracts or parcels of land with all the appertenances thereto belonging or in any wise appertaining unto the said party of the second part, his heirs and assigns to his & their only proper use and behoof forever. And the said parties of the first part Covenant & agree with the said party of the second part, his heirs and assigns, that the said parties of the first part are seized of a good sure perfect and indefeasible Estate in fee simple of, in, and to the said Tract or parcel of land with all its appertenances. That they the said parties of the first part have full power and lawful authority to sell and convey the same unto the said party of the second part and to his heirs and assigns forever. And that they said parties of the first part, will, and their heirs, executors and administrators, shall warrant and forever defend the said tracts or parcels of land, with all its appertenances, unto the said party of the second part, and to his heirs and assigns, against all and every person or persons, whomsoever, lawfully claiming or to claim the same. In witness whereof the said parties of the first part have hereunto set their hands & seals, on the day and year first above written.

Be it known that on this eighth day of May 1832 before the subscribers two of the Justices of the Peace in and for said County personally appeared the within named Anna Rieves Guardian within named and Jonathan Shields & Mary Ann his wife, and acknowledged the within Instrument to be their voluntary acts & Deed, and the said Mary Ann wife of the said Jonathan Shields being by us examined separate and apart from her said husband and the contents of the within deed been made known to her, doth declare, that she did voluntarily and of her own free will and accord, and as her act and deed, seal and deliver the said Deed of Conveyance without any coertion or compulsion from her said husband. Given under our hands & seals the day & year above mentioned.

I Henry W. Heth, Clerk of the Circuit Court of the County of Harrison in the second Judicial Circuit in the State of Indiana certify that John Smith & Abraham Rhode, Esqrs whose names appear to the above certificate of acknowledgement were at the time of certifying and signing the same two acting justices of the peace in & for said County of Harrison duly commissioned and sworn, and that fully faith and credit are due and aught to be given to all their official acts as such. In testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name and affixed the seal of our said Court at Corydon the 8 day of May 1832.
