Transcript

This Indenture made and entered into this 18th day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred & thirty three between George W Revis of the County of Lincoln & State of Tennessee of the one part and John Sherman of the County of Giles & State of aforesaid of the other part (Witnesseth) That the said George W Revis as aforesaid for and in consideration of the sum of four hundred & ten Dollars to him in hand paid by the aforesaid John Sherman the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath given granted bargained sold aliened conveyed & confirmed unto the said John Sherman a certain tract or parcel of land, lying being and situate in the County of Maury and State aforesaid on the Bank of Duck River and bounded as follows (To wit) Beginning on the North Bank of Duck River a small distance below the Ford commonly called Lewis Ford where the west boundary line of Benjamin Herndon's 4000 acre tract crosses said Rover Thence up the said River westardly with its meanders one hundred poles or thereabouts to a stake of the Bank of said Rover Thence south along a line newly marked one hundred & forty two poles to a post oak on the North Bank of said rover thence up the river eastwardly with its meanders one hundred poles to a sugar tree being the beginning corner of said Heandon's said four thousand acre tract & Holland's four thousand acre tract & Hind's five thousand acre tract, Thence with said Hendon's west boundary line to the beginning containg seventy nine acres & 64 poles be the same more or less being a part of a five thousand acre tract origally granted to Joseph Hinds. To have & to hold the aforesaid tract or parcel of land with all & singular the rights profits emoluments hereditaments and appurtenances of in and to the same in anywise thereunto belonging or appertaining to the same to the only proper use of him the said John SHerman & his heirs or assigns forever and the said George W Revis as aforesaid for himself his heirs executors & administrators doth covenant & agree to and with the said John Sherman his heirs & assigns that the before recited land he will warrant & forever defend unto him the said John Sherman his heirs & assigns forever against the right title claim or demands of all & every other person or manner of persons whatsoever claiming the same in law or equity. In testimony whereof the said George W Revis hath hereunto set his hand & affixed his seal this day & year first above written.

State of Tennessee Maury County
Personally appeared before me Thomas J. Porter clerk of the Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions for said County George W. Sherman & Miles P. Murphy subscribing witnesses to the within deed, who being first sworn depose and say that they are acquainted with George W. Revis the bargainer and that he acknowledged the same in their presence to be his act and deed to wit in the presence of the said George W. Sherman on the 14th day of June 1833 and in the presence of the said Miles P. Murphy on the 30th day of July 1833. Witness my hand at office this 2nd day of August 1833.
