State of North Carolina § This is to certify that I, Solomon ReavesColumbus County § of Said State and County being Being (sic)
weak in body, but perfect in memory, Knowing that it is apointed (sic) for all men to die, my will is there shall be an equal division betwixt the lawful heirs of my body of the earthly goods that the Lord has blessed me with, with what they have had before and what there is now to divide with these following exceptions that is to say my beloved wife Winney Reaves Shall have her choice of the parks with her Lawfull dower in the plantation, and Samuel Reaves Shall have the Care of her through life, and at her decease to dispose of her property as she thinks proper. Also Samuel Reaves to have my lands below the tract of land that James Garrels lives upon and above on this Side of Toms fork the said swamp to be the line, and it to be out of his part accorden to the value of Said land; Also James Garrel to have the rest of my land be taken out of his part acording to the value of Said land. Also that my man handy shall be freed for his meritorious exersions (sic) in Saving my life when drownding (sic) being a man of good morals. Also my will is that my property shall be divided in pease for I yearned (sic) it without law, and I wish it divided without law, and this and no other to be my last will and testament, this the twenty Sixth of January in the Year of our lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty Six, 1836
