Transcript
The State of South Carolina }Know all men by these presents that I John G Rives of Fairfield District & State afd. in consideration of the sum of one hundred & fifty dollars to me paid by Thomas Starke of the said District & State afd have granted bargained sold and released and by these presents do grant bargain sell and release unto the said Thomas Starke his heirs and assigns all that plantation or tract of land containing fifty acres, more or less, lying and being on the main road leading from Harrisons Ferry to Columbia in Fairfield District on the waters of Little Thorntree Creek, waters of the Wateree River, and bounded on the north by Muses land formerly, now Thos Starkes, on the East by Denkins land, formerly Mas Knightons, on the south by Dinkin's land & on the west by Charles Moores Land, Together with all and singular the rights members, Hereditaments and appurtenances belonging or in any wise incident or appertaining, to have and to hold all and singular the premises before mentioned unto the said Thomas Starke his heirs and assigns forever - And I do hereby bind myself my heirs executors and administrators to warrant and forever defend all and singular the said premises unto the said Thomas Starke his heirs and assigns against myself and my heirs executors administrators and assigns and against all other persons whatsoever lawfully claiming or to claim the same or any part thereof. Witness my hand and seal this 13 day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty seven and in the sixty first year of the Independence of the United States of America.

Fairfield District } I William Ellison Justice of the Peace Quorum Unis do hereby certify unto all whom it may concern that Elizabeth Rives the wife of the within named John G Rives did this day appear before me and upon being privately and separately examined by me did declare the she does hereby voluntarily and without any compulsion dread or fear of any person or persons whomsoever, and especially of the within named John G Rives her husband, renounce release and forever relinquish unto the within named Thomas Starke his heirs and assigns all her interest and estate, and also all her right and claim of Dower of in or to all and singular the premises within mentioned and released. Given under my hand and seal this 13th day of February Ann Domini 1837
