Transcript

This Indenture made and entered into this 21st day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty seven. By and between Michael Ellis of the one part, and John H. Reeves of the other part. Both of the County of Bedford and State of Tennessee, Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of thirty two dollars six and one fourth cents to him paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, the said Michael Ellis hath this day bargained & sold, and do by these presents give grant, bargain, sell, release and convey unto the said John H. Reeves his heirs and assigns forever, a certain tract or parcel of land, situate and lying in the county of Bedford on the west side of Big Flat Creek adjoining the Tract of land whereon said Reeves's mill is situate, and bounded as follows, to wit Beginning on a stake between two ash stumps the corner of the tract of land conveyed by John B. Cummings to J. C. Holt on Dicksons North boundary line late said Ellis's south east corner, thence north eighteen poles with said cummings old line, now the mill tract, to a stake, thence west forty two poles to a stake on the west side of the road, loading from Shelbyville to Fayettesville near a stooping hickory, being Joshua Hix north east corner of the tract purchased by him from said Ellis, thence south 31 1/2 degrees west, with said Hix line said road twenty one poles to a white oak on the east side of the road on Dicksons line, thence east with the same fifty three poles to the Beginning, containing Five acres and fifty five poles be the same more or less. To have and to hold with all and singular the rights profits hereditaments and appurtenances to the same belonging or in any wise appertaining to the same to the only proper use benefit and behoof of him the said John H. Reeves his heirs and assigns forever. And the said Michael Ellis for himself his heirs executors administrators or assigns covenant to, and agree with the said John H. Reeves his heirs and assigns to warrant and defend before recited land and bargained premises free from the claim or claims, titles challenges or demands of all and every person or manner of persons setting claim thereto.
