Transcript

I Stephen Smith have this day bargained and sold and do hereby transfer and convey to Elijah Reeves and his heirs forever for the consideration of thirteen hundred and five dollars to me paid a tract of land in the State of Tennessee Maury county and district number 24 containing by estimation two hundred and sixty one acres be the same more or less bounded as follows. Beginning on a Hickory and Ironwood on an island on a branch of Duck River on Gilliams south boundary thence with Gilliams ad S…. north eighty nine degrees West one hundred seventy three poles and 6/10 to a Black oak (dead) marked M L. thence south ten degrees, west two hundred and fifty two poles 6/10 to a Sugar tree to a branch on the original south boundary of the 4000 acre tract given to Mary B Lewis. Thence along said line south eighty nine degrees east one hundred and seventy three poles and 6/10 to poplar Wm Christophers south west corner, thence with the division line North one degree east one hundred and forty three poles to a poplar on the south bank of the branch thence up the meanders of this branch to the begging. To have and to hold the same to said Elijah Rieves his heirs and assigns forever. I do covenant with said Elijah Reives that I am lawfully seized of said land I have a good right to convey it and that the same is unencumbered and I do further covenant and bind myself my heirs and representatives to warrant and forever defend the title the to said land and every part thereof to the said Elijah Reives his heirs and assigns against the lawful claims of all persons whatever this first day of March 1841
