Transcript
In the name of God Amen. I Joel Reeve of Moriches in the Town of Brookhaven, County of Suffolk & State of New York being weak in body but of sound and perfect mind & memory do make & publish this my last Will and Testament in manner and form as follows. Viz1st I give unto my loving wife Abigail Reeve all my household furniture as also the use of three hundred dollars in money (the said sum to be held in trust by my executors hereinafter named) & they to put the same out in such safe manner as a majority of them may think best & from the use of the same pay over unto her (reserving therefrom any reasonable charges or expences in collecting the same) for & during the time she may remain my widow or untill her death if she never marries & after that time the said sum of $300.00 shall revert back equally to my three sons viz Silas, Ferdinand and John C Reeves or their heirs or assigns.
2d I give to my daughter Jemima Reeve two hundred and fifty dollars $250.00 out of any monies or notes that I leave the same to be paid her by my executors within six months after the proving of this will & further I give her the priviledge of a home in my house so long as she remains a single woman.
3d I give and bequeath to my daughter Caroline Hutchinson fifty dollars the same to be paid by my executors within six months after proving this my said will.
4th I give and bequeath to my three sons Silas Ferdinand and John C Reeves and to their heirs and assigns forever in equal parts all the remainder & residue of my estate both real and personal (after the payment of my just debts and funeral charges & legacies above named by my executors hereafter named.
5th I appoint my son Silas Reeve, my son in law Jeffery S Hutchinson and my friend James M. Fanning as executors to this said will and to have the same proved in due time & carry the same into effect and also to defray? all funeral charges to pay all my just debts and to collect and receive all monies due me hereby revoking all former wills by me made and also hereby declaring this to be my last will and Testament in witness whereof I hereunto set my hand an seal this twenty first day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty four (1844)
