Introduction

The Workhouse of the United Parishes of Southampton, otherwise known simply as the Poorhouse was on St Mary Street, close to the Parish Church of St Mary in Southampton. There were 79 male and 72 female paupers, along with 38 male and 40 female scholars, including one Reeves, namely
