Transcript

I Joel S Rieves have this day bargained and sold and do herebye bargain and sell and convey to W B Embry (sic) and W J Bridges for the consideration of one dollar to me paid and the other considerations hereinafter mentioned – one gray horse, one cherry cupboard and twenty five head of stock hogs, to have and to hold the above described property to the said Embry & Bridges their heirs etc.
But this deed is made for the following use & Trusts & for one other purpose, that is to say I am indebted to the said W S Embry and W Bridges in the sum of -- dollars
Now if I should pay or cause to be paid the above sum of money on or before the 1st day of March 1854 Then this deed be void but should I fail to do so then the said Embry & Bridges or either of them as such trustees are hereby authorised to advertise and sell said property for cash and appropriate the proceeds first to the necessary expenses and costs of this deed, secondly to the satisfaction of said debt and thirdly to pay the balance if any to me or my orders

County of Maury      } Personally appeared before me John B Padgett clerk of the county court of the said county the within named Joel S Rieves, the bargainer with whom I am personally acquainted and who acknowledged that he executed the within deed for the property therein contained
