Suffolk County SS: Be it remembered that at the Surrogate's Court held at the Surrogate's office in Riverhead in said County on the 8th day of September 1857 - Present George Miller Surrogate the last will and testament of James W Reeve late of Southold in said County deceased was duly proved before the said Surrogate as a valid will of real and personal estate which said will and proof are as follows:
I James W. Reeve of Mattituck in the town of Southold in the County of Suffolk and State of New York being of sound and disposing mind and memory do make publish and declare this my last will and testament as follows viz
I give and bequeath to my wife Phebe R Reeve all my indoor moveables viz my household furniture, books, clock and waring apparel, half of my provision put up for family use, meat and grain - half the grain which may be growing on the ground at my decease - I also give and bequeath to my said one horse and one cow with necessary hay and fodder for the same for the period of ninety days - the said horse and cow to be selected by her from my stock &c also my riding carriage also the one hundred dollars in her name in the Savings Bank, to her and to her heirs and assigns in addition to her right of dower
I give and bequeath the sum of Five hundred dollars to be equally divided among the children of my deceased daughter Miriam J. Osborn or to such of them as may survive me.
I give and bequeath the sum of Five hundred dollars to my daughter Anna W. Gildersleeve her heirs and assigns.
I give devise and bequeath to my son James Reeve all the rest residue and remainder of my property and estate both real and personal he paying all my funeral expenses, the legacies hereinbefore mentioned and all my debts including two annuities which I have covenanted and agreed to pay to my mother Mehitable W. Reeve during her natural life - which said funeral expenses, debts and legacies are hereby charged upon the said property hereby given and devised to my said son.
I hereby nominate constitute and appoint my said wife Phebe R. Reeve executrix and my said son James Reeve executor of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all other and former wills by me made.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this thirty first day of January one thousand eight hundred and fifty seven
