This Deed made this the 20th December 1862, between William H. Hudgins and Duritha his wife of the one part and Geo D Reaves of the other part all of the county of Halifax & State of Virginia Witnesseth that the said William H. Hudgins and Duritha his wife for and in consideration of the sum of one thousand Dollars to them in hand paid at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents by the said Geo D Reaves the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged the said William H. Hudgins and Duritha his wife doth grant bargain & sell unto the said Geo D Reaves a certain tract or parcel of land lying & being in the county of Halifax on the road leading from the Cross Roads Church to Melton (sic ?) and bounded as follows Beginning at a Pine & corner of James R---ards (?) thence S 54 - W 38 poles to a maple in a branch thence N58 - W 30ž poles to the above written Tract thence the meanders of the same to the beginning containing Six and nine tenth acres more or less and that they the said Wm. H. Hudgins and Duritha his wife for themselves their heirs &c doth warrant the right & title to the said Geo D Reaves his heirs and assigns against the claim of all persons whomsoever. Halifax Co. to Wit:
I L. W. Cherbiville a Justice of the peace for the county aforesaid in the State of Virginia do certify that Wm H. Hudgins whose name is signed to the within deed bearing date on the 20th day of Decr 1862 has acknowledged the Same before me in my county aforesaid. Given under my hand this the 20th day of Decr 1862.
