I Richard Rives of the County of Fayette and State of Tennessee do make and publish this as my last Will and Testament hereby revoking and making void all others by me at any time made.
First, I direct that my funeral expences and all my debts be paid as soon after my death as possible out of any moneys that I may die possessed of or may first come into the hands of my executor.
Secondly, I give and bequeath to my son Lucurgus Rivevs and his heirs forever my home stead tract of land called Hopewell containing one hundred and sixty acres of land lying in district no 5 Fayette County Tennessee, Also Eighty acres of land lying north of said Tract of land Known as the Crittenden place it being a part of my original tract deeded to L O Rives and by him deeded back to me which I hope he will take care of and improve.
Thirdly, I give and bequeath to my son Leonidas O Rives and his heirs forever the tract of land on which J T Crittenden now lives known as Woodlawn, containing one hundred and sixty eight acres except five acres which was reserved for a grave yard by R T Bordnax Sr and R T Bordnax Jr in their deed to me. also a tract of land containing sixty acres more or less, lying north of the tract known as the crittenden place it being the same deeded to my by R. T. Bordnax Sr. and R T. Bordnax Jr. making two hundred and twenty three acres in the two tracts of land which I hope he will take care of & improve.
Fourthly, I give and bequeath to my beloved daughter Harriet Victoria Leoy (who has always been kind and ditiful to me) and to her heirs forever a tract of land containing two hundred acres called the Caspoon place lying north of the now woodlawn place and originally a part of the same extending to C J Seay's Southern boundary line, also the best bed & stead complete, my secretary sofa one pair looking glasses two parlor tables one sett china & glass ware, one china press & my metal handle knives & forks
Fifthly, I give and bequeath to my grand children Annie Rives Seay and Willie Rives Seay my Buggy & Harness and horse name joe with the request that they will take care of Joe.
Sixthly, I give and bequeath to my friend John T Crittenden the best mule that may be in my possession at the time of my death and all my carpenters tools, Also to his wife Mrs. Harriet Crittenden the best cow or the one she may select, also to Richard Crittenden son of J T Crittenden my silver watch and double barrel gun.
Seventhly, I direct that after satisfying the above personal gifts that the residue of any of my property be equally divided or sold and the proceeds divided between my sons Lycurgus Rives Leonudas O Rives and my daughter Harriet Victoria Seay, the gifts as recorded above are in addition to what I have heretofore given my children and with as good interest and sound judgment as has ever been my lot to possess I earnestly hope & wish that it may be satisfactory to all parties and with respect to my memory, there may be no jangling over my will to carry out the same. I have selected William T Boyd
Lastly, I do hereby nominate and appoint William T Boyd my executor to carry out this my last will and Testament and it is my will and desire that he shall not be required to give security as my executor.
In witness whereof I do to this my will set my hand the twenty sixth day of July 1875

This is a codicil to my last Will and Testament dated 26th July 1875. Whereas by my said Will I have given J T Crittenden the best mule that may be in my possession at the time of my death and all my carpenters tools and to his wife Harriet Crittenden the best cow or the one she may select and to his child Richard Crittenden my silver watch and double barrel Gun I hereby revoke the gifts to said Crittenden his wife and child and I now declare that it is my will that the said property the said gifts be desposed of as follows that is that it be equally divided between my three children L O Rives, Lycurgus Rives and Harriet Victoria Seay. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this sixth day of January 1876.
Signed by the said Testator Richard Rives as and for a codicil to his last will & Testament in the presence of us who at his request in his sight and presence and in the presence of each other have subscribed our names as attesting witnesses
