Transcript or Summary

I Peter M. Reeves of the state of Virginia and County of Halifax being of sound mind & disposing memory though feeble in body do make this my last will and testament in manner & form following, Viz 1st I wish all my just debts to be paid as soon after my death as practicable.
2d I give to my beloved wife Elizabeth W. Reaves all of my household & kitchen furniture, all of my plantation tools (?) all of my stock of every description, together with the entire crop which may be in hand at the time of my death and also the tract of land upon which I now live with the mill thereto attached, the said tract of land to extend to Thorntons line on the North and include the mill pond and on the East-side of the creek far enough to include all the bottom land down to its junction with the West branch of Runaway Creek in fee simple to have and enjoy as she may think proper and at her death to dispose of as she pleases. But in case my wife above named should marry her second husband shall not have the right to dispose of any of the above named property – either real or personal but she may dispose of it as she may think proper among her own children
3d I wish all the remainder of my land not mentioned above equally divided among all my children, that part in coming to my daughters to be theirs their lifetime, and at their death their childrens. As witness my hand and seal this 4th day of March one thousand eight-hundred & seventy-six 1876.

At a court held for the County of Halifax October 23d 1876. A writing purporting to be the last will and testament of Peter M. Reeves decd was presented in court & proved by the oath of witnesses thereto subscribed & ordered to be recorded.
