Montgomery Co., AL
History
Montgomery County was established by dividing Monroe County on December 6, 1816 and was named for Lemuel P. Montgomery, a military officer killed at the Battle of Horseshoe Bend in the War of 1812.In 1861, Jefferson Davis was sworn in as President of the Confederate States of America in Montgomery, the first capital of the CSA.
