I began doing genealogy as a teenager which was fortunate as I still had many older relatives to interview. I just wish that back then I had known more about how to do that correctly! My nearest Reeves ancestor is my great-great grandmother Susan Abigail Reeves Dortch, the daughter of Reason Reeves of Greenup County, Kentucky. Without the online sources of today within a couple of years searching books, and querying others I had several generations of Reeves ancestors. You can imagine how appalled I was when one fellow researcher - a competent genealogist - wrote me to ask if I had ever read Asa Reeves will where Reason Reeves father, Benjamin Reeves, is described as the ADOPTED son of Asa Reeves! Several generations then no longer applied and today I still search for the answer of who his parents were!

The advantage of a start like this is that I learned to value checking sources myself! In the 1970's and 1980's I taught adult family history classes for several years in three community colleges and my Reeves mistake was shared as a warning to others.

Today I am retired and delighted to finally have more time to spend on my own research. I love the fact that I can do so much from home, but I am not a techy person and just learn a new computer skill when it changes on me. I appreciate those who are savy with all this new technology.

I am an active member of the DAR, and do some volunteer work, garden, embroider, travel, and love to read really good mysteries.
