My interest in genealogy is a natural progression from my love of history. I began researching my family roots more than twenty years ago in earnest when my husband and I were preparing to move to North Carolina. My mother’s family was originally from western North and South Carolina, although she grew up in Florida. Her mother was Mary Hester Reeves, daughter of William Robert Reeves & Charlotte Eugenia Roberts of Greenville SC. I began my research of the Reeves family by buying a copy of the Reeves Review, but quickly learned that the family lines in that book did not agree with what I was learning through research of primary sources. Nor did some of what I was learning agree with family stories.

William Robert Reeves was the son of Mincher Littler Reeves, who moved his family from Haywood County NC to Greenville after the Civil War. As I traced my family back, I learned that I descend from William Reeves (~1680-1751), DNA Group 3, through “Sidney” James Reeves who married Elizabeth Wells in 1785 in Guilford County NC. They are found in Buncombe County (Ashville) records by 1799.

Before moving to NC, I worked for more than 20 years as a market research analyst for companies and consulting firms in the New York metropolitan area. After moving to eastern NC, I spent 15 years in real estate. I am now fully retired and hope to have more time for genealogy once my husband and I complete our move to Orange County NC to be closer to family.
