Frances H. Broadwell's husband, Edmund Haward, died about 1865 and she remained a widow for the rest of her life.

Although Jarratt and Elizabeth Broadwell deed 25 acres in Wake County to Frances (recorded in Wake County Deed Book 27, Page 62), census records indicate that she continued to live in their household.
