Little is known about Mary Downs Tilley but it appears that she was deceased by 1808 when her husband Elijah Tilley married Mary "Polly" Maton on 3 Aug 1808 in Wake County.

In the 1850 census of Wake County, a widowed Mary Tilly was living in the Oak Grove community among the extended family members
of Mary Downs Tilley and contains many other descendants of Mary Reeves Allen. Wright Stanly with wife Elizabeth Allen Stanley, half sister of Mary Downs Tilley, are found only a few dwelling numbers distant from this Mary Tilley, but it does not appear possible that this widow Mary Tilley is Mary Downs.
