Putnam County, GA
History
Putnam, Georgia's 33rd county, was created on December 10, 1807 from Baldwin County. The county was in Georgia’s Piedmont region and part of the lands ceded by the Creek Indians in 1802 and 1805. It was named for General Israel Putnam, a hero of the Revolutionary War and a veteran of the battles at Lexington and Breed's (Bunker) Hill in Massachusetts.
