Newbury, Berkshire

Location

Newbury is an Ancient Parish and Borough located in the extreme south of Berkshire. It is approximately twenty-five miles north of Winchester, Hampshire, twenty miles to the east of Marlborough, Worcestershire and 18 miles west of Reading. Parish Registers

"A History of the County of Berkshire: Volume 4" (pub 1924) notes the pre-1812 registers as follow
(i) baptisms, marriages and burials from 1538 to 1634;
(ii) 1634 to 1746;
(iii) baptisms and burials 1743 to 1783, marriages 1746 to 1754 (this and the later books are indexed);
(iv) marriages 1655 to 1659, baptisms 1692 to 1737;
(v) marriages and banns 1754 to 1802;
(vi) the same 1765 to 1798;
(vii) marriages 1783 to 1799;
(viii) baptisms 1783 to 1799 and burials to 1798;
(ix) burials 1798 to 1812;
(x) baptisms and
(xi) marriages for the same period.

Adjacent (Pre 1832) Parishes

To the east Newbury is bounded by Greenham which is a Chapelry of Thatcham and the extra-parochial area of Sandleford. To the south is Highclere in Hampshire and to the west Enbourne. To the north is Speen.
