Parish Registers
A History of the County of Hampshire: Volume 3 (pub 1908) indicates a number of early registers as follows -The first book of the registers is on parchment, and goes from 1590 to 1683, with one baptism of 1583, and at the end are paper leaves with entries for 1673-81. The second book has births and deaths 1669-1775, and marriages 1669-1754. The number of marriages for so small a parish is abnormal, and is explained by the fact that Rowner was a favourite place for marriages among the naval men from Gosport and Portsmouth. The third book contains marriages 1754-1810, and the fourth baptisms and burials 1775-1812.The Gosport Discovery Centre has micro fiche copies of the Registers from St Mary the Virgin, Rowner for the following periods -
baptisms 1583-1995, marriages 1583-1988 and burials, 1583-1952
