Southampton, Hampshire

Location

Southampton lies at the northernmost point of Southampton Water at the confluence of the River Test and River Itchen. It is approxiately 75 miles southwest of London.
Southampton is sometimes abbreviated in writing to "So'ton" or "Soton".

Southampton only acquired city status as recently as 1964, becoming the City of Southampton.
