Lewes, Sussex
Location
Lewes is a significant market town and historically was the county town for the whole of Sussex and latterly the administrative county of East Sussex. Lewes sits in a gap in the South Downs, primarily on the west bank of the River Ouse. It is about 7 miles north of Newhaven, where the River Ouse flows into the English Channel. It is about 25 miles south south west of Royal Tunbridge Wells and 8 miles north east of Brighton.It is home to the East Sussex Record Office. See also http://www.thekeep.info/
