Woodford County, KY
History
Woodford County was first surveyed and shaped, before the district of Kentucky was admitted to statehood, and was then a part of the county of Fayette, Virginia in 1788. It was named for William Woodford, an American Revolutionary War general from Virginia who was with General George Washington at Valley Forge and died while a prisoner of war in 1780.Woodford was established as one of the nine counties of the Commonwealth in 1792. The original boundaries followed the Kentucky River from Mundy’s Landing, (located on Woodford County’s southern tip), north to the Ohio River and then east to the mouth of the Licking River at present day Covington.
