History

The county was formed in 1771 from the eastern part of Rowan County and western part of Orange County. The first settlers included German Reformed and Lutherans in the east, British Quakers in the south and west, and Scotch-Irish Presbyterians in the center of today's Guilford County.

Guilford County is bordered by Stokes to the northwest, Rockingham on the north, Caswell the northeast, Alamance in the east, Randolph the south, Davidson to the southwest and Forsyth the west.
