Narrative
For reasons unknown, George Anderson Reaves changed the spelling of his name from Reeve to Reaves sometime after moving from Alabama to Mississippi in the late 1870s.Although not mentioned by name, George Anderson Reaves is identified in an 1878 newsletter, The Alabama Baptist, reporting his baptism by his grandfathers, James Anderson Reeve and A. B. Smith, both Baptist ministers, as follows:
"On the 2d day at Union (Duck Springs), the faithful father Gwinn and J. A. Reeves and J. H. Horton, all members of this church, did much effective labor and had a good meeting. Elder A. B. Smith, of Mississippi, was present, and preached 3 or 4 telling sermons. Bro. Smith's grandson, who is also a grandson of Bro. Reeves, came with him. He professed faith in Christ, joined the church and was by the two grandfathers together, buried with Christ in baptism. He took his letter home with him to Mississippi."
