DEATH OF SAMUEL REEVE.
It gives us unfeigned sorrow to announce the death of Samuel Reeve, for many years a tobacco merchant of this city, and one of the most estimable and beloved members of this community. Mr. Reeve died on the 13th inst., at Cape May, New Jersey, whither he had gone for the benefit of his health, which had been for some time impaired. It is not the language of formal eulogy which we use, when we say that Mr. Reeve was one of the best of men, a Christian indeed, whose religious faith was shown not only with his lips, but in his life, and whose benevolence was a thing of practice rather than theory. In every practical religious and benevolent operation, he was foremost, not with his mouth, perhaps, hut with his heart and hand. The afflicted and the sorrowful have lost in him a sympathizing friend, the poor a benefactor, and the orphan institutions in this city a corner stone of the noblest charity to which the humane and lovely spirit of Christianity has ever given birth.
The funeral services of the deceased will take place this morning at 10 o'clock, at the United Presbyterian Church, of which he was a member.
