Narrative

Volney was appointed postmaster in Wheelersburgh, Scioto County, Ohio on 22 Mar 1833.

The headstone reads "Sacred to the memory of Volney Reeve who departed this life Feby. 6th .. 1840 on the Bayou...in Louisiana in the 36th year of his age. His remains were brought and intered here, April 12th 1843."

He has a will written 20 Apr 1834 and recorded in Book A of Scioto County Wills which only names his wife Theresa.

His wife later remarried to Thomas Hurd. Both husbands are buried beside her. There is a Cynthia Hurd in the household in 1850 who may be Volney's daughter. In 1855, a Cynthia Reeves married a Samuel McGraw in Scioto County, Ohio. This may be her.
