Narrative

Alfred Edward Reeves is the youngest of three known children of Samuel James REEVES and his wife Hannah (nee HARRISON). According to the 1939 Register he was born in July 1891 and the GRO Index shows his birth was registered in the Lymington Registration District during the third quarter of that year, with his mother's maiden name recorded as HARRISON.

At the time of the 1901 census Alfred appears in his parent's household living on Tattenham Road, Brockenhurst, Hampshire. He was nine years old and his place of birth is given as Brockenhurst.

On the 1911 census Alfred again appears in his parent's household on Tattenham Road. He is now 19 years old and working as a Stationary Engineman

The marriage of Alfred E Reeves and Annie SANDFORD is recorded in the FreeBMD Index to Marriages during the third quarter of 1919 in the Lymington Registration District.
The only known child of Alfred Edward Reeves and his wife Annie (nee SANDFORD) is

Alfred E Reeves, his wife Annie and their son Edward G appear together on the 1939 Register at 10 Tattenham Road, Brockenhurst. Alfred's occupation shown as "Forest Worker - Felling Timber". See Research Note 1 below. Alfred's mother Hannah is listed in the preceding schedule (schedule 251) at 11 Tattenham Road.

FreeBMD notes the death of Alfred Edward Reeves, age 76, during the fourth quarter of 1967 in the New Forest Registration District. The Probate Registry notes his will was proved in January 1968 and that he died in November 1967. His place of residence is again given as 10 Tattenham Road, Brockenhurst.

Research Notes

(1)   On the 1939 Register there are two additional twelve year old children living with them but no family relationship has yet been established. It is possible they were evacuees.
