Eli C. Reeves apparently left the Ashe County area sometime before he executed a Power of Attorney to his brother John Reeves on 26 Mar 1839. The POA was executed in Floyd County, Georgia and gave his brother John the authority to sell his lands in Ashe County, North Carolina. It is unknown how long Eli stayed in Georgia but by 1850 he had returned to the New River area where he was recorded in the census that year living in the home of Ephraim Gentry in Grayson County, Virginia.

Research Notes

The death certificate of daughter, Mary Malisie Reeves Bentley, in Pike County, Kentucky gives the name of her mother as Susan Jackson. This may indicate that Susan has been married before her marriage to Eli Reeves and Jackson was her maiden name.
