Rites Tuesday At Burkburnett - Burburnett, March 27 (Special)
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Burkburnett Church of Christ for Mrs Hattie E. Smith 75, who died at her home Friday. Roy L. Foutz of Lawton will officiate assisted by Loy Ruckman, minister of the Burkburnett church and William Willhoit also of Burkburnett. Burial will be in the Burkburnett Cemetery under the direction of Owens and Br-ley Funeral Home. Pallbearers will include J. ?. Beavers, A. A. Jacobs, C. ?. Grisham, Dave McNeil, Dr. L- Shores and Cliff Cannon.
Resident Since 1906 - She was born near Nashville, Tenn., Nov 26, 1874. She married J. A. D. Smith also of Tennessee, in 1892 and the couple came to Burkburnett in 1906. She was a charter member of the Burkburnett Church of Christ which came into being in 1907 and contributed heavily to the building fund which resulted in construction of the present church. Mrs Smith was active both in church work, as a teacher for more than 20 years and in civic affairs. During her early years in Burkburnett, she owned several oil wells and at the time of her death was operating an apartment house.
Subdivision - Last year she developed a block-long subdivision with the establishment of Smith Street.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs Vera Amyx of Wichita Falls and Mrs Hattie Mae Smith of Burkburnett; five sons, Lynn F. Smith of Wichita Falls; S. A. Smith of Estancia, N. M..; D. D. Smith of Monterey, Calif.; Owen R. Smith of Wichita Falls and G. F. Smith of Burburnett; five sisters, Mrs Minnie Conley of Weston, Texas; Mrs Asa Hayes of McKinney; Mrs Ed Hayes of Weston and Mrs Henry Rigsby of Celina, Texas; two brothers, Sam Reeves of Bakersfield, Calif and W. C. Reeves of Anna, Texas; 17 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
