James Bridgeman Reeves was born in Tennessee probably Marion Co. in 1829 according to census records from 1860 Dade Co. GA, 1870 & 1880 Jackson Co. AL Census records. He lived with the Derryberry Family and worked as a clerk according to family stories this is confirmed by the 1860 Trenton, Dade Co. GA Census. In 1864 James B. Reeves enlisted with the Confederate Soldiers Army and served as a private with the 39th INF. Company D of Dade Co. GA. After the War Between the States, James moved to Jackson Co. Alabama and began working as a farmer. He is listed head of household and living him is Sarah Reeves his mother who is 84 years old (blind) and his sister Sarah Jane Porter and her children, according to the 1870 Jackson Co. AL Census. On the same page of this 1870 Jackson Co. AL Census, the O'Neal family is listed. In 1872 James married Matilda C. O'Neal who was born in Trenton, Dade Co. GA on October 25th 1845. James and Matilda had eight children and were members of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Jackson Co. Alabama. James Bridgeman Reeves died May 28, 1899 and is buried at Ebenezer Baptist Cemetery.
