In 1870, one Susan Reeves, 27, was living near Jeremiah's family in the household of William and Sarah Franklin. It is possible that this was Susan Smith Reeves, but, since several other Reeves families lived in the area, this could be a member of a different family. If it were this Susan, her children were not shown.

In 1880, the orphans of Jeremiah and Susan Reeves were living with John and Clara Ann Reeves Thornton. Martha Cagle Reeves and her unmarried daughter Catherine were living in next door in HH 10/10.
