Narrative
Child of John B. Reeves and Martha Rachels:
- Lilla Mae Reeves, b. 9 July 1885, d. 1 Jan. 1950, m. Reuben H. Mangham on 26 December 1906 in Pike Co., GA. They moved to Tift Co., GA.
John B. Reeves may be the same individual as the J. B. Reeves who married Martha Rachels on 24 July 1866 in Pike Co., GA. John B. Reeves, age 37, and wife Martha (Mathey) A., age 30, were enumerated in GMD 581, HH 58/58, Pike Co., GA, in 1880. His mother Paulina and sister Rhoda were living with him. John and Martha had no children at that time.
Research Notes
The 1900 Pike Co., GA, Census, Concord, HH 58/58, showed: John Reeves, born August 1839, married 33 years, GA/GA/GA, Farm Laborer; Martha, Wife, born February 1848, married 33 years, GA/GA/GA, 1 child born and 1 child living; Lilla, July 1884, 15, GA/GA/GA. This man would seem to be the J. B. Reeves who was a Confederate pensioner from Pike County; in his pension documents, he indicated that he was born in Pike County on 2 August 1839 (a date that matches John Reeves in the 1900 census) and had lived there all his life. The problem identifying him stems from the 1850 and 1860 census reports, which indicate that he was born about 1845. The pensioner J. B. Reeves was alive in Pike County in 1905-1906 when his pension was transferred to Spalding County. He was alive in Spalding County on 9 January 1907 when he signed pension documents there.
