Narrative

John H. Reeves who appears on the 1840 census in Bedford County, Tennessee is presumably the same as J. H. Reeves who sold land in that county seven years earlier. It appears he had a wife and four children with him in 1840. It is not currently known how or if he belongs to any of the several Reeves families who lived in Bedford County.

In 1837, John received a deed of trust consisting from Theophilus Thompson for thirty barrels of corn and other goods.

Although they haven't been located on the 1850 census, John H. Reeves and wife Mary appear in Bedford Circuit Court minutes from December 1855 in a case with A. H. Evans & wife Eleanor C and Emily Dixon vs. Henrietta & Jane B Holt. (p26) The minutes stated the case had to do with the estate of Michael Holt, so it can be inferred that Mary was probably his daughter. (Aug 1855, p557)
