Narrative

Sarah, the wife of John Newton Reeves, was probably the daughter of John Armstrong of Lincoln County. There are numerous references to Armstrong family members in the probate documents of Newton's estate and James Armstrong was the administrator. In an administrator's statement of 1838 there is a comment regarding an amount owing to Newton's estate - "A Small Amount Supposed to be due to Said Estate from a divide of a Share due to Matthew Armstrong Disceased (sic) one of the Heirs of John Armstrong". This appears to indicate that Sarah and Newton Reeves may have been due a share of the estate of Sarah's unmarried brother inherited from their father which reverted to his siblings at his death.

Sarah Reeves died on 27 May 1847 and is buried in Smith Cemetery, Gaston County, North Carolina. Inscribed on her gravestone is "wife of Newton Reeves" aged 36 yrs 2 Mo 15 days.
