Research Notes
Kate Springfield is recorded as marrying a J. R. "Reavis" in Monroe County, Missouri. Further research has confirmed that he was from the Reavis family and not Joseph, the son of William S. Reeves. Joseph appears to have remained in Iowa and later Indiana after his father and other family members moved westward to Missouri. There are ample records, i.e. death, etc. that confirm that the Joseph A. Reeves or Reves of Dallas County, Iowa was the son of William Reeves and Lavina Hockersmith.Although there is no extant marriage record for Joseph Reeves and Catherine Rice, the extant birth and death records for all of Joseph's 5 older children all list Catherine Rice as their mother. Additionally Catherine is recorded in the 1880 census listing as Joseph's wife.
