Lenoir Reeves would appear to have been named after Revolutionary War General William Lenoir who was also a resident of the New River area in Ashe County, North Carolina and with whom the Reeves family was undoubtably acquainted.

The 1830 census of Greene County, Indiana lists a "Noah" Reeves, age 20-30 with a wife 20-30 and one female child 0-10 in the neighborhood with other members of William Reeves' family. Lenoir is again referred to as Noah in the tax records of Carroll County, Arkansas in 1840.

On the 20th of May, 1841, Lenoir Reves received Federal Land Certificate No. 8513, for 161½ acres in the NW quarter of Section 19, in Township 14N, of Range 10E (land located in Putnam County, Illinois), in the district of lands offered for sale at Galena. His brother, Terrell, received Federal Land Certificate No. 8512 for 159 acres in Section 18 on the same date. Oddly, both Lenoir and Terrell are listed as taxpayers in Carroll County, Arkansas in 1840 and 1841.

Lenoir is recorded in the 1846 Iowa State Census living in Polk County with a household of 6 persons.

In the 1850 census of Polk County, Iowa on 26 Aug 1850, sons George and John are recorded in the household of James A. Scott and his wife Phoebe. Marriage records in Polk County record James A. Scott's wife as Phoebe Reeves who is probably the oldest child of Lenoir. In that same 1850 census on 4 Sep 1850, Mourning, John, George and Sarah Jane are the only members of the household and there is no mention of Lenoir. Family records indicate that Mourning Walker Reeves died in Castle Rock, Nebraska on 14 Jun 1852.

L. E. Reeves (Lenoir), born circa 1809 in North Carolina, is recorded in the 1860 census living in the home of his daughter Anna Reeves Woody in Williamsburgh, Josephine County, Oregon.

By 1868, Lenoir Reeves is listed as a registered voter in Tulare, California. Moving further north, he was counted in the 1880 census in Cove, Union County, Oregon.
