Narrative

Luther Leander Reeves, was born 31 Jul 1895 in Holcomb, Dunklin County, Missouri. His mother died sometime after his birth, but before the 1900 Census. At that time, Luther was living with Robert C. and Lucy M. Young in Union, MO as their Ward. According to the 1910 Census, he was back living with his father and stepmother, Lula Belle Wallace Reeves, in Holcomb.

Luther married Martha “Marie” Davis 31 Dec 1918 in Illmo, Scott County, Missouri. He worked for many years on the railroad before becoming a painter. Luther was also Mayor of Illmo from 1956-1958. He died 9 Dec 1958 while in the Missouri State Tuberculosis Sanitorium in Mount Vernon, Lawrence County, MO, and is buried in Lightner Cemetery in Scott City.

Luther's widow, Martha “Marie” Davis Reeves, daughter of Thomas H. (1853-1900) and Nancy Jane Chitwood Davis (1862-1941) was born 27 Feb 1895 in Mountain View, Howell County, Missouri. She died 23 Nov 1975 while residing in the Hilltop Nursing Home in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and is buried in the Lightner Cemetery with Luther.
