Narrative
Martin H. Reeves first paid poll tax in 1827, GMD 588, in 1827, which corresponds with the age he gave in the 1860 census.
Martin Reeves was apparently omitted from the 1850 Upson Co., GA, Census. He was enumerated in GMD 537, Double Bridges, Upson Co., GA, HH 292/266: Martin Reeves, 54, GA, Partial Pauper, $50; Winny, 47, GA; D. E., 27, female, serving, GA; L. A., 18, female, serving, GA; M. A., 18, female, serving, GA; M. M., 14, female, GA, Lunatic; I., 12, male, GA, Lunatic; C., 9, female, GA; W., 7, male, GA; S., 4, female, GA. Interestingly, Martin's brother Eustace was living only a few households away with an estate valued at more than $10,000 altogether.
The 1845 Poor School List for GMD 537, Upson Co., GA, showed George W. Reeves and Lily Ann Reeves. They were listed together. In most instances in these poor school records, such a listing denotes siblings. George W. Reeves was enumerated at the time of the 1850 census, at which time he was shown as a 17-year-old laborer living with the family of Willis and Sarah A. Martin. It seems likely that George W. Reeves was the oldest son of Martin Reeves, already living on his own by 1850. The 19-year-old L. A. Reeves shown in 1860 could be the child shown as Lily Ann Reeves on the school list. The other known sons of Elijah Reeves married after George W. Reeves was born. It is possible, however, that Eustace H. Reeves, who was born 1807, had a prior marriage that has not yet been discovered. Further evidence in support of this interpretation comes from the 1860 census, which shows both Eustace and Bloomer Reeves as prosperous farmers with substantial property, while Martin Reeves was shown as a partial pauper with only $50 worth of property.

The following are the known children of Martin and Winny Walker Reeves:
- D. E. Reeves, born c. 1833, GA.

- L. A. Reeves, born c. 1842, GA. She is probably the child shown in school lists as Lily Ann Reeves.

- C. Reeves, born c. 1851, GA. She is probably the child shown in school lists as Caroline Reeves.
