Narrative
The Michael Reeves, age 81, listed in the "poor house" in Smith County, Tennessee is undoubtedly the same individual recorded in the 1840 census there. At that time his household consisted of the following: 1 Male <5, 2 Males 10-14, 1 Male 50-59, 1 Female <5, 2 Females 15-19, 1 Female 20-29 and 1 Female 40-49. In the 1860 census, Polly Reeves, age 55, and Easter Reeves, age 35, are also recorded as living in the poor house.By 1870, Michael appears to have died. Mary (Polly?) Reeves and Easter Reeves, along with Emily Reeves age 39 and 3 year old Ellen Reeves are still residing in the Smith County poor house.
This may be the same individual who was living in Orange County, North Carolina and recorded in the 1810 census there. At that time, Michael Reeves was 16-25 years old and listed as the head of household that appeared to include his siblings and an elderly mother. The only other Orange County record is a marriage bond on 16 Aug 1816 for the marriage of Michael "Reavs" to Betsy Morgan.
