Peter M. Reeves (Reves), Jr. enlisted in Co. B of the 3rd Regiment of Virginia Cavalry of the CSA on 1 Mar 1862. He was taken prisoner at Farmville, Virginia on 6 Apr 1865 and on 1 Jul 1865 took the oath of allegiance and was released.

After the death of Peter M. Reves, Jr. this family appears to have changed the spelling of their name to Rives. This may have been the result of the inability of Bettie Chaney Reeves to read and write which was common for females at that time. Their marriage record gives Peter's name as Reves which is the earliest spelling of the family name dating back to William Reeves born circa 1720.
