WALTER A. REEVES, Warren County, was born in Madison County, this state, March 8, 1806 (sic?), and is a son of George and Elizabeth (Wilkerson) Reeves, of English descent. His parents came to Warren County when he was about nine years of age, and he has lived in this vicinity ever since. He received but a limited education, his studies being confined to the common schools. He married, December 16, 1832, Mrs. McFail, widow of Malcolm McFail. They have had eight children as follows: Lucinda M. (deceased), Abbie C. (sic Alvis), William F., Mary W., Samuel D. (deceased), Susanna, George M. D. and America. Four of these are married and reside in Texas; the other two live near the old homestead. Mr. Reeves is an enterprising and energetic farmer. He is a Democrat in politics, never "scratching" that ticket and is a member of the Christian Church; his wife is a member of the Baptist Church.

Research Notes

Walter Alvis Reeves' date of birth is reported differently is several sources. His gravestone is now missing from the Old Zion General Baptist Church Cemetery in Woodburn, Kentucky with only the footstone with initials W.A.R. remaining. The above biography published in Kentucky: A History of the State gives the date as 8 Mar 1806 while other sources give the year as 1809. This book was based on interviews with the individuals profiled which would presumably would have been Walter Alvis Reeves himself.
