Andrew Pollard Rives was born in 1852 and after his marriage on November 21, 1883, to Florence Edwards, of the ancient and honorable family of that name established in Surry county, Virginia, since early in the 17th century, he resided at "Oakland," in Surry county, where he engaged in farming. Florence Edwards, born October 10, 1858, died December 4, 1926, was a daughter of Dr. William Henry Edwards, born October 8, 1805, died December 9, 1859, M. D. of the University of Pennsylvania in 1829, and his second wife, Mrs. Albina Amanda (Drew) Holleman, of Surry. Dr. Edwards was a son of William Edwards (son of William Edwards, V, and his wife, Susannah Edmunds), who was born in Surry county in 1789, and died in Norfolk, Virginia, January 22, 1827, by his second marriage on May 17, 1804, to Frances Green Seawell, daughter of John and Frances (Hobday) Seawell, of Gloucester county, Virginia, Frances (Seawell) Edwards receiving as a marriage portion 20 slaves and 20 mules from her father. Andrew Pollard Rives died December 15, 1924.
