Means on February 1, 1851, and now in the possession of his daughter—in-law, Mrs. R. B. Rives, of Wilmington, North Carolina. The records of the War Department show his service in the Confederate Army as a private in Co. B, 6th'S. C. Infantry. Col. Rives, who died Oct. 4, 1897, at Landsford, his home, married November 29, 1846, Martha Mary Fudge.
