Judson Carey Rives was born in South Carolina, August 18, 1829. "When a young man he was the most splendid looking man my eyes ever looked upon," is the testimony of him left by his brother, J. R. Rives. In 1833 he accompanied his father to Alabama, and in 1850, after an attendance of some time at the University of Alabama, he removed to De Soto Parish, La., where he built "Wildwood" about three miles from Mansfield, La., and where he spent the remainder of his life.
