From Reliques of the Rives:
Oscar Lee Rives was born in Obion county, Tennessee, in 1896. He enlisted in the United States Army on December 27, 1917, and served as a sergeant with the I93rd and 214th Aero Squadrons until November 29, 1918. In 1920 he was ordained as a Baptist minister; was graduated from Union University (B. A., 1922); attended Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (1923-25); and was graduated from Peabody College for Teachers (M. A., 1928). He is now Professor of Social Science at Carson and Newman College, Jefierson City, Tennessee.
