Dr. Robert’ Rives, born near Greenfield, Illinois, in 1868, was graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College, Toronto, Canada, in 1892. He practiced his profession and farmed in Greene county, Illinois, until 1896 when he removed to Muldon, Mississippi, and purchased a large cotton plantation which he operated while continuing his professional activities. In 1907 he disposed of his plantation and was appointed Assistant State Veterinarian at the National Stock Yards, East St. Louis, M0,, a position which he still holds. In 1916 he founded and became president of the Corn Belt Serum C0,, Inc., continuing his veterinary work and managing at the same time a large farm acquired by him near the old Rives’ homestead in Illinois.
