Dr. Samuel Henry Rives was born in Richland District, South Carolina, August 18, 1818, and like his brother, Claudius Green Rives, attended the University of Alabama, from which he was graduated with the degrees of B. A. and M. A. in 1843. Dr. Rives afterwards studied medicine which he practiced for a time at Liberty, Texas, accumulating considerable means before his death at Collirene, Ala., October 21, 1872.

Selma Dollar Times, 29 Oct 1872
We regret exceedingly to learn the death of Doctor Sam. H. Rives, at Collerine, Lowndes county, on the 21st inst. Doctor Rives formerly resided at Collerine, but removed to Texas some years since and resided at the town of Liberty in that State. He was on a visit to his relatives in Lowndes county at the time he was stricken down.

Although his headstone states he died the 30th, his obituary, published the 29th, states he died the 21st.

Research Notes

Reliques states his wife's name was Jerusha Ann Robert. The marriage record states her surname was Cole. Research is needed to determine if she had been previously married.
