Stephen Rives, always known as “Little Steve,” and whose full name may have been John Stephen Rives, is notable as having served in the Union Army against his father, with whom apparently all communication was thereafter terminated. “Little Steve” died near Medora, Illinois, where he is buried. His wife was from Ohio and after his death she decided to return to her former home. “Forty-five years ago about 1881 or longer a woman and little boy by the name of Rives were taken off a boat at the little port of Linton, Ky., on the Cumberland River. The woman was sick and she died. She was from Illinois but that seems to be all that was known of her. A young doctor by the name of Finis Brandon attended this woman and after her death he and his wife took the
